How the handicap league system works
Concept: The Handicap System
This league isn't just about who's best at EA FC — it's about levelling the playing field so that everyone has a real chance, every season, regardless of skill level.
Here's how it works:
Each player has a Power Ranking score. This score acts like a “budget” — it determines which EA FC clubs you're allowed to play with. Every club in the game has a combined rating made up of its defence, midfield, and attack stats. You can only select a club whose total rating is at or below your Power Ranking budget (plus a small Collective Adjustment that applies to everyone equally, to make sure there's always a workable pool of teams available).
The twist: better players get a smaller budget. If you're a strong player, your Power Ranking points will be lower, forcing you to play with weaker, lower-rated clubs. Less skilled players get a higher budget, giving them access to stronger clubs to compensate.
At the end of each season, everyone's Power Ranking points shift automatically based on how they finished:
- ►The Championship winner gets the biggest reduction — next season they'll have to play with even weaker teams.
- ►Players who finish near the bottom get an increase, giving them more room to pick stronger clubs next time.
- ►Everyone else shifts up or down depending on where they placed, including playoff results.
The result is a constantly self-balancing league — no matter your skill level, the system adjusts to keep things competitive season after season.
For Admins
Setting up and running a season:
- ►Choose which version of EA FC you'll be playing with (although currently only teams from EA FC 26 have been uploaded).
- ►Create a league and give it a name.
- ►Create users, with username, gamer name, password and role (player or admin). You'll need to email or text your friends with their usernames and passwords, and tell them to update their account details.
- ►Create a new season — choose a format (Single League or Two Groups) and a start date.
- ►Set Power Ranking Rules — define how many points players gain or lose based on their finishing position, including playoff outcomes (Championship winner/runner-up, Plate winner/runner-up, etc.) and any penalty types (e.g. conceding lots of goals).
- ►Add participants — each player's current Power Ranking points carry over automatically from their history. For the very first season, there's no history yet, so the General Admin needs to set each player's starting Power Ranking points manually. A good approach is to run a few trial matches first to get a feel for everyone's skill level, then assign points accordingly — lower points for stronger players, higher points for weaker players. These starting points don't need to be perfect; the system will naturally rebalance everyone after each season based on results.
- ►Build the Season Teams pool — filter and confirm which clubs are available this season, and review the suggested Collective Adjustment (or set your own).
- ►Generate fixtures — the app creates a full round-robin schedule automatically.
- ►Enter match results as games are played — the league table and form guide update live.
- ►Once all league fixtures are played, playoffs are generated automatically.
- ►Enter playoff results — when the final result is in, the season completes itself and Power Ranking points update automatically for next season.
- ►Optionally run a Cup competition alongside the league.
